Mrs. Miller used creative measures to get to know her students and help them to get to know her, by creating an interactive activity in Pear Deck (an add-on feature for Google Slides)! 8th graders used Chromebooks to participate in an anonymous group discussion where they answered a mix of questions about themselves and their interests, random math facts (afterall, this is 8th grade math!), and about Mrs. Miller. All students answered each question anonymously, but all answers were populated on the Promethean Board so that students could read/discuss/and laugh together.

Example questions included: What is your favorite thing about coming back to school?; What is your biggest challenge about coming back to school?; You see a symbol called an octothorpe almost every day. Can you draw it?; What makes you unique?; and Where was Mrs. Miller born?

Mrs. Miller and students noticed together by anonymous answers provided by the group: 1) many of us are happy about the same timely things including getting to be around people again, getting back to a routine, being able to play sports or other group activities, and enjoying a brand new school building; 2) many of us are anxious about the same challenges including mandatory wearing of masks at school, social distancing, getting up early, dealing with drama; 3) and in general - we are all GLAD to be back together again in whatever Learning Option and/or unique learning environment that is best for us.
