Trojan Good Things, 3/13: I would like to use the shout out this week to encourage you all and thank you as educators in a public school district - THANK YOU! I am so honored to work alongside public servants who, during challenging and - even scary times - we are committed to the wellbeing of a cause greater than ourselves. Today we celebrated every school for meeting their building 3rd quarter goals.  It was a small gesture, but please know how much you are appreciated!

COVID-19 is not to be taken lightly, and I know you’re all as concerned as I am about it. Thank you, though, for doing an excellent job of taking care of business in spite of public panic continuing to build around this. As public school educators, we are at the forefront of public scrutiny. You all handle that so well, and I appreciate you for it. Remember that you all set the pace for our kids. They will follow your example. If you are informed and calm, they will be, too. We operate and make decisions based on facts, and based on guidance from state officials in health and education. Please help to carry that message with kindness and confidence with you to every classroom and every conversation you have as you enjoy your weekend.

Please make sure you stay on top of reading and remaining informed via HSSD Wellness Updates that are being emailed to you and posted to school websites and social media. Those are the best way to ensure we maintain a strong, well-informed front for our kids and our community. Those keep us on the same page about all news/updates and changes that affect the HSSD. You all are our strongest voice, and (as you know) our kids and the community absolutely look to you for guidance.  Our schools will remain open at this time, as they are the safest place for our students as stated by Governor Hutchinson and Secretary Key at a press conference this afternoon!

I have a great anonymous shoutout to share regarding Ms. Newborn at our Gardner STEM ...

“Ms. Newborn is all about the kids.  She expects us to follow the rules, as she does and runs a smooth ship.  I love how she keeps her cool in all situations.”

I also have a wonderful shoutout to share from a new Trojan Family, who have awesome things to say about our Ms. Tiffany Cooper, who is part of our renowned SPED Team … see:

“My family and I just moved to Hot Springs from Pensacola, FL. I called Langston Elementary last week to find out how to register my son in school there. I was referred to Tiffany Cooper due to his IEP Plan set in place by another district. Ms. Cooper has went above and beyond to assist me in this process. She called me daily to follow up and see if I had any questions.

I was already impressed with Ms. Cooper's professionalism and down to earth personality, but today I actually met her in person. I am absolutely BLOWN AWAY! She is so upbeat and positive! I was able to tell that her job is not just a job... She loves what she does. Her impact has brighten my day and made me more comfortable with my son going to a new school!

Ms. Cooper said great things about the entire district, her coworkers, and the community! She is absolutely the greatest person I've met thus far in Hot Springs, AR.  I just want to say Thank You! I'm confident my kid will get a great education if any of the staff is just as half professional as she has been. Please spread the word. She needs to be recognized!”

Trojan ‘Good Things’ is a weekly shout out from #HSSD Superintendent Dr. Stephanie Nehus to individuals in our school community who are doing amazing things! It is her goal to communicate all the positives happening in #HSSD.
