Hot Springs World Class High School (HSWCHS) students in Family and Consumer Science (FACS) classes brought to life monster characters created by Oaklawn Visual & Performing Arts Magnet School (OVPA) kindergarten students! Kindergarten students enjoyed an assignment earlier in the school year to imagine a monster and describe it in detail by providing it with a name, personality traits, preferences and interests, and a detailed drawing. The completed monster projects were passed along to students in FACS classes at the HSWCHS, who used them as inspiration for lessons in sewing. FACS students chose the most carefully described monster projects, and have worked for weeks to sew monsters that resemble as closely as possible those that kindergarten students imagined. Today, kindergarten students who had a monster project chosen by a FACS student were presented with a little monster to take home! Mrs. Gardner brought FACS students by bus to make in-person presentations at OVPA. FACS students also read “Leonardo the the Terrible Monster” to kindergarten classes.
