Our OVPA Jr. Beta Club was selected to be the featured group in the January R.I.S.E. (Reading Initiative for Student Excellence) Spotlight, by the Arkansas Department of Education Division of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE)! They were chosen for their "Betas, Books, and Babies" project - which was a partnership with CHI St. Vincent Hospital to supply books to newborn babies. 100+ books were collected during this effort and donated to the hospital. Each book included thoughtfully written notes inside and bookmarks to remind families about the importance of reading to children.

The R.I.S.E. Spotlight campaign focuses on the second goal of R.I.S.E. Arkansas: To create community collaboration. Literacy is not only for those in education but for all Arkansans. Business and community partnerships are critical to changing the landscape of literacy for everyone. Each month the R.I.S.E. Spotlight will shine on a community partner who is committed to helping every student obtain the reading skills necessary to achieve success in school, thereby giving them the opportunity to have a richer life.
