It was in September of 2016, that the great citizens of Hot Springs passed a millage to allow the Hot Springs School District to construct two brand new buildings -- Langston Elementary Leadership Academy and Hot Springs Junior Academy-- and to upgrade and remodel almost every one of the district’s campuses. In just over three years, we are nearing completion of each exciting addition and renovation to our facilities.

In addition to the large scale construction projects generously funded by millage dollars, the HSSD has also funded several renovations through district dollars available due to responsible fiscal management and planning by administrators.

HSSD Construction Overview, of Millage-Funded Construction Projects

Millage projects completed to-date, include:

- Visitor’s parking lot paved at Joe Reese Stadium;

- Constructed band stand at Joe Reese Stadium;

- Replaced a large portion of the roof at Hot Springs Junior Academy

- Extended the drive in front of Oaklawn Visual & Performing Arts Magnet School

- New construction of Langson Elementary Leadership Academy complex at 300 Silver Street, and full demolition of the former Langston Elementary School

Millage projects still under construction:

- Complete remodel of Hot Springs World Class High School Library (Construction is complete; move-in/full transition of the library will take place by December, 2019)

- New construction of Hot Springs Junior Academy on Emory Street with 1,000 seat auditorium and 2,200 seat Arena (Anticipated completion in Spring of 2020)

Millage projects left to be completed:

- Renovations at the current Hot Springs Junior Academy site, to include the front facade, auditorium upgrades, classroom and restroom renovations, playground construction, and a reconfiguration of the fine arts wing

- New doors at the current Oaklawn Visual & Performing Arts Magnet

- Parking redesign in front of Hot Springs World Class High School

Construction Update: Hot Springs Junior Academy

The three-story Hot Springs Junior Academy classroom building will be accompanied by a 2,200 seat arena and a 1,000 seat auditorium. The classroom building will hold classes for all 7th-9th grade students in the 2020-2021 school year. The auditorium and arena will be used by all programs and athletic events, performances and presentations, and other needs as necessary by the entire district.
- The classroom wing of the building is entirely enclosed, and all outside construction is complete. Interior walls on the first and second floors, and stairwells, are being painted. Lighting and the ceiling grid system are being completed for all three floors. The classroom building is the most completed area of this construction project.
- In the expansive arena, geofoam is being placed in the seating area. All roof work is completed, and all exterior walls and electrical wiring processes are complete. The kitchen and concessions area is nearing completion. Steelwork for the entry facade is being installed. The entryway to the entire complex will also serve as the cafeteria for 7th-9th grade students in the 2020-2021 school year.
-Over in the auditorium, roofing is nearing completion.

Construction Update: Hot Springs World Class High School Library

On the east side of the Hot Springs World Class High School building, just next to the cafeteria, a large area has been blocked off for construction since the summer. We are proud to unveil this generous space as the new HSWCHS Library (upstairs). The Technology Center (downstairs) remains as it was, with computer labs and classroom space. The new library - one of the most important components to any academic institution - will be just over 7,000 square feet of newly renovated space for all HSWCHS students.

HSSD Construction Overview, of District-Funded Construction Projects

In addition to the large scale construction projects generously funded by millage dollars, the HSSD has also funded several renovations through district dollars available due to responsible fiscal management and planning by administrators. An overview of these projects is below:
-Nearing completion to the first-ever HSSD Indoor Practice Facility, located in the visitor’s parking lot area, next to Joe Reese Stadium. This facility is 41,270 square feet, and includes a 40-yard practice field. The installation of turn was completed just last week. Architects are currently working to complete the installment of insulation in the roof, install laundry equipment, complete mechanical requirements in the ceiling, install unit heaters, and install overhead doors. We expect this facility to be completed for use by athletes and any other HSSD programs in need of weightlifting, practicing, or indoor activity space by January, 2019.
