This is the image for the news article titled 5th Graders Take Gallery Walk of Great Depression5th grade students at our Oaklawn Visual and Performing Arts School did a gallery walk at the Park Magnet library to view iconic photographs of the Great Depression. Music was played from the time period, as students worked to answer seven reflective questions about the images. The gallery walk is a kickoff event to begin their reading of the book “Bud, Not Buddy,” a story of ten-year old boy Bud Caldwell who grew up in the 1930’s during the middle of economic downturn and financial turmoil. His journey of loss, loneliness, hardship, and renewed connection and growth through jazz music provides a memorable read and rich discussion for all classrooms.
