This week’s shout out goes to our Beta Club students and staff/parent sponsors, and our Langston staff members who have been part of building the framework for the new Langston Elementary Leadership Academy.  This week, we’ve had over 115 HSSD students competing at Jr. and Sr. Beta Club Convention hosted right here at the Hot Springs Convention Center. 90 students have competed at Jr. Beta Club events from Park, Oaklawn, Intermediate School and Junior Academy. 25 students have competed from the Hot Springs World Class High School. We look forward to hearing how each group placed amid competitions and challenges. Beta Club students and sponsors work throughout the year on countless community and club projects that develop wonderful collaborative, speaking, and leadership skills for our kids. Thank you students and staff for representing us so well at both Beta Club Conventions! I’m also very excited to see the rollout of our new Langston Leadership Academy, which happened this week thanks to dedicated collaboration, creativity, and leadership from Langston staff members . At the new Langston Elementary Leadership Academy, areas of focus will include community awareness, communication, health and wellness, environment, service, and entrepreneurship. The new mission is to ensure that we enrich the lives of our students and staff with high levels of learning, respect, and community awareness (find more details, here). I couldn’t be more proud of this new magnet theme for Langston, the students and families that will benefit, and  HSSD in general as we add to our offerings and service.

Also, please find an anonymous staff shout out below to Ms. Ballard at Park Magnet: “Ms. Ballard works tirelessly to make sure that parent messages are delivered, that students maintain appropriate behavior in the halls, and that Park receives and produces information accurately.  As the IncredIBles Enrichment Program began its second session this week, she worked so hard to make sure that parents of students who were riding the bus knew that the program began and where exactly their child would be dropped off. Because of this, all students were accounted for and taken care of, much to the delight of the IncredIBles staff.  Thank you, Ms. Ballard, for being so PRINCIPLED, REFLECTIVE, and so so KNOWLEDGEABLE. You are so IB and we truly appreciate you!”

Trojan ‘Good Things’ is a weekly shout out from #HSSD Superintendent Dr. Stephanie Nehus to those individuals in our school community who are doing amazing things! It is her goal to communicate all the positives happening in #HSSD. If you have any special events happening in your classes or buildings or if you know of someone we need to give a shout out to, please complete the form at
