This week’s shout out goes to Carrington Holder, one of our seniors at HSWCHS, who was chosen as the student guest and speaker at Hot Springs Rotary. Rotarians seek student guests and speakers who are in the top percentage of their classes, involved in school activities, and community minded, and Carrington couldn’t have been a better candidate. Carrington represented us so well, and spoke about his 13 years as a Trojan. Carrington is a high honor roll IB Diploma Candidate, he was an Arkansas Boys State delegate, plays Trombone in the Mighty Marching Trojan Band, and is on the swim and baseball teams. In the community Carrington is a former member of the Arkansas Community Foundation Youth Advisory Council, is a graduate of Leadership Hot Springs Partnership with Youth, and a peer mentor with Men Mentoring Young Minorities. Carrington works for HSSD as a teacher’s aide with the Summer Literacy Academy and works a part-time job on the weekends. Thank you Carrington for representing our HSSD Trojans so well with your dedication, commitment to excellence, and your drive.

I also want to highlight our wonderful Hot Springs School District Board Members, three of which received Boardmanship Awards from the Arkansas School Boards Association this week. Congrats to Lonnel ‘Dino’ Lenox, who received a Master Award for 50+ hours of boardsmanship credit for community service and leadership. Congrats to Ann Hill, who received a Pinnacle Award for 200+ hours of boardsmanship credit for community service and leadership. Congrats to Debbie Ugbade, who received a Platinum Award for 400+ hours of boardsmanship credit for community service and leadership. These leaders serve our district in so many ways, and we appreciate their insight and passion for the HSSD in all that they do!

Finally, we’ve had an anonymous shoutout submitted to highlight our excellent staff members who contributed to the Holiday Extravaganza event. I am in agreement that we have so many exciting holiday events and performances this month that showcase our world class students.: “Thank you to Ms Nash, Edgin, Utz, Bettis, Clayton, Mr Sandlin and their choirs for making our Holiday Extravaganza 2018 a success. It was a great night for “Songs of the Season.”
