April 2018 Update

And we are off!  In Early March we received approval from the Arkansas Department of Education Facilities Division of our plans for the new Junior Academy to be located on the east side of the current Hot Springs World Class High School campus.  Mid-March we held a bid opening for the new 175,000 sq. ft. building.  We budgeted a little over $33 million dollars for this project.  We are happy to report that the bids came in and the building will cost less than we projected.  For a project this large, this is exciting news.

On Monday, April 2, we hosted and energized and exciting groundbreaking ceremony in the location of the new Junior Academy.  Future students to be housed in the building were on hand to join in the celebration along with the band, cheerleaders, drama students, dance students, and athletes.  Students currently in 4th, 5th, and 6th from Langston, Oaklawn, Gardner, Park, and the intermediate school that will be 7th, 8th, and 9th graders in 2020-2021 were celebrating the breaking of ground for a place they will call home in two years.

Now that these two major projects are underway, we move our focus to upgrading our current facilities in preparation of the big move in the 2020-2021 school year.  We are planning for the extension of the Oaklawn drive to better accommodate car rider pick up and drop off.  The Library at the High School will also be renovated along with a few façade for the current Junior Academy campus on Main Street.

We cannot say thank you enough to the voters for your support.  Please remember that you can go online and see what’s happening at the construction sites anytime by going to www.hssd.net.
