What a week we’ve had, Trojans! THANK YOU for everyone’s work (ALL OF IT!) to make this back-to-school week such a success for our kids. I know you’ve all put in long hours. I know you’ve gone above and beyond to make this week of organized chaos one that is productive and memorable for students.

Teachers, I know you’re exhausted - but I see you laying the foundation necessary for a great school year. Thank you for repeating yourselves over and over again, memorizing new sweet faces and names, and going the extra mile to build relationships.

I want to give a big shoutout to our Nurses and Counselors. Our Nurses have been busy this week with our educators on the front lines - and even on front lines of their own - to help us get student medicines and medical needs organized, and in helping us to fight COVID-19 in our schools. We appreciate you so much. And, our Counselors always have sleepless nights during these first days as they lead the charge in building and changing schedules, and in helping us all provide direction for students wandering hallways and navigating classes. Thank you for your dedication and your patience as we build routines and provide classes and services that are unique to the needs of our kids.

Also - our Law Enforcement Officers - thank you for coordinating such a great collaboration with the Hot Springs Police Department! Law Enforcement Officers from our own HSSD Institutional Law Enforcement Agency and the HSPD helped with morning drop off at our elementary schools, and helped escort students inside, take temperatures, and direct traffic.

Thank you to Administrators and all other staff members in every office and school across the district. I know you felt like you talked to everyone in the world this week. Thank you for the huge part you play in answering phone calls and helping to share the information that families so desperately need to get the year started.

On a serious note, our district laid to rest a wonderful colleague this week. Please continue to keep the Love family in your thoughts and prayers. Mike’s spirit was with us this week as we began a new school year, and showed our kids the love that he always showed to so many.

I also want to recognize our Oaklawn STEM staff members. You’ve had challenge after challenge thrown at you this week due to a pandemic that is completely out of your control. I see you and appreciate your courage. We are supporting you in every way that we can, and lifting you up this weekend.

I hope you all never grow tired of the exhaustion mixed with such excitement and celebration that the first week of school always brings for educators and students. THANK YOU!!
