This week’s shoutout goes to the innovative art programs and amazingly talented artistic students that we have across the HSSD - all showcased at a WONDERFUL Hearts on Fire for the Arts event last night at the Hot Springs Mall. Congratulations and thank you to the unbelievable student performances from all schools, and to the artists who had artwork featured from across classes and genres. I would like to specifically highlight an awesome story that I had the personal pleasure of hearing this week.  Mr. Weatherspoon encouraged his student Brandon Cazalez, who is a 5th grade Langston student at the Intermediate School, to pursue a project with his Uncle (Alex Cazalez). Alex 3D printed a violin, on a 3D printer that he built himself. They used recycled plastic bottles to make the filament. Brandon played that violin at the Intermediate School for his classmates. There are so many stories like these across HSSD, and I hope we all are inspired many times every single day by our outstanding students and families - whether we experience student successes at large-scale districtwide events, or in our classrooms.

I also want to share anonymous shoutouts to our 7th-8th grade Trojan Baseball Team, and to Mrs. Deardorff and district arts staff for their dedicated effort:  “Shout Out to our 7th and 8th grade Trojan baseball team. They are 2-0. They beat Magnet Cove last Tuesday 4-3 and Lakeside Friday night 15-3. Everyone needs to come out and support these boys!” and “Shoutout to Mrs. Deardorff and the district arts staff for an amazing arts showcase on Thursday night, Hearts on Fire for the Arts! It was amazing to see so much talent all in one place and realize how much our district has to offer. The teachers from each school put a lot of time and effort into highlighting kiddos and showing off their hard work. Mrs. D did an excellent job of coordinating the event and getting everyone involved!”

Trojan ‘Good Things’ is a weekly shout out from #HSSD Superintendent Dr. Stephanie Nehus to individuals in our school community who are doing amazing things! It is her goal to communicate all the positives happening in #HSSD.
