This week’s shoutout goes to our excellent community partners in the Hot Springs area, and all of you HSSD staff members who are so wonderful about reaching out to them to create opportunities for our students.  Teens from across Garland County, including 11th-12th graders from our HSWCHS, attended "Operation Prom Night" Wednesday at Center Glades Park. Over 50 volunteers created a dramatization of a fatal car crash involving alcohol, in hopes of educating teens about the dangers and risks of drunk driving. County and state officials including LifeNet, Garland County Coroner's Office, Arkansas State Police, Garland County Sheriff's Office, Piney Fire Department and others collaborate to host this moving annual display. For our 7th-8th graders - Mrs. Miller and HSJA staff members, in collaboration with the Diamond Lakes Federal Credit Union, hosted a great Reality Fair event at the HSJA this week. Diamond Lakes Federal Credit Union provides fairs like these across the county and at our HSWCHS periodically. This was the first year that we hosted one for our younger students, and I know it was an eye-opening experience for many. Volunteers, students, and staff were part of this interactive event that teaches our kids about realistic financial goals and planning for the future.

I also want to share an anonymous shoutout to Mr. Echols, Mr. Seymour, and other Athletic & HSWCHS Staff members:  “I would like to give a shout out to Mr. Echols, Mr. Seymour, staff members working the gate entry point, and all other athletic and HSSD staff members present at the 7th-8th grade track meet on Tuesday afternoon. Our track is in better shape than it has been in years. The comments from the Hot Springs community have been excellent all week about the experience. Parents and guests were moved quickly through the line, and enjoyed a great evening of cheering on our kids - which is what we are all here for. Thank you to all involved with making our track and field events world class!”

Trojan ‘Good Things’ is a weekly shout out from #HSSD Superintendent Dr. Stephanie Nehus to individuals in our school community who are doing amazing things! It is her goal to communicate all the positives happening in #HSSD. If you have any special events happening in your classes or buildings or if you know of someone we need to give a shout out to, please complete the form at www.tinyurl.com/TrojanTidbit.
