Trojan Good Things is published every Friday and shared with Trojan Staff Members by HSSD Superintendent Dr. Stephanie Nehus ...

“Trojans … I hope you get to RELAX, REJUVENATE, AND REFRESH next week for Spring Break! The Self Care component attached is a great reminder that we all need some down time, and I hope you all take advantage of a full week to implement self care. Have a wonderful week, and thank you for all that you do.

Trojan Spring Break Good Things (Yall, we have so many GREAT things happening):

> Congrats to all three of our EAST Programs! They hosted a Superbooth this year at EAST Conference 2022, and collectively won a “Tech in Action” Award! Thank you to our facilitators and support from all staff in helping us to implement such memorable, highly impactful EAST programs in Trojan elementary and secondary schools. Facilitators - you definitely deserve rest after the week you’ve had! We appreciate you Mrs. Watkins, Mrs. Ham, and Mr. Miller, and all others who volunteered or assisted in any way.

>Our TrojanEats Food Truck and the Chartwells Trojan Team partnered with the East Conference 2022 event to feed 300+ of the student and staff attendees in attendance! Thank you to our EAST Facilitators and EAST students for bringing this collaborative project idea to Chartwells. Thank you to Mrs.Hardage for always being a risk taker; she’s never afraid to try new things. What an honor it is when HSSD can not only serve our Hot Springs community, but also students from across the state (and a few from across the U.S.!).

>Our HSWCHS Coding Team placed in the TOP 17 out of over 150 teams in Arkansas. They have advanced to the Sixth Annual All-State Coding Competition that will take place on April 30! Congrats and thank you to Mr. Mathews and all Coding Team students.

>Good luck to our HSJA as they host a Neon Dance Party tonight, rescheduled from our snowy Friday last week. I shared at the School Board Meeting earlier this week that we are so THANKFUL to be able to offer Trojan Traditions like dances back to our students in-person. We are also looking forward to a mostly normal prom for our high school students on April 8.

>I’ve heard wonderful things today about the Oaklawn STEM Multicultural Celebration and the MVPA St. Patrick’s Day Spring Fling event! Thank you for the planning and energy that went into these exciting experiences for our kids.

>I love this partnership project that Langston third grade teams hosted with Park Rangers from Hot Springs National Park: Third graders at Langston participated in a leadership project aligned with their science standards by identifying, locating, and tagging invasive species located within Hot Springs National Park. The experience allowed our kids to volunteer in their community by working with Park Rangers to defend our local natural ecosystem and preserve our local National Park. Park Rangers will later remove the invasive species tagged by our students.

> Here’s another amazing partnership to highlight - I love that our Park Magnet, an IB World School, has partnered with THV 11 (Little Rock television station) to invite Meteorologist Corallys Ortiz to visit in-person with our kindergarten students as they wrap up their Unit of Inquiry about weather! From Park Rangers to Meteorologists … These are such awesome opportunities for our kids to connect their classroom experiences with professionals and with their dreams for post-graduation.

> Speaking of bringing professionals and partners to our schools … the HSWCHS hosted a very successful CTE Career Fair this week. Professionals from across the community met with our kids in small groups to discuss career info including job roles, hiring expectations for respective industries, and recommendations about certifications and education/courses that could benefit them.  Thank you to Mrs. Garner, Mrs. Shipman, and all others involved; great work!“
