This week’s shoutout goes to the amazingly talented students at our HSSD, and the brave way that our student groups put themselves out there in public forums, competitions, and performances. We’ve had a series of memorable events this week that have taken weeks (and in some cases- years) of preparation, discipline, creativity, integrity, community collaboration, and I’ll say it again - amazing talent. EAST Programs: Our four outstanding EAST Programs at the HSWCHS, HSJA, HSIS, and Gardner STEM Magnet presented and competed this week at the East Conference at the Hot Springs Convention Center. Our students built displays and presented an array of community projects that blend technology with the solving of civic and social problems. Find a full list of all memorable student projects, here. During the Conference Gala, our HSWCHS team Program was awarded the prestigious Cornerstone Award for Project Sophistication and Innovation, and an individual award via Miles Hermann in the ARCHICAD Competition. OVPA ShowChoir Spring Concert: Inspiring 4th-5th grade students performed songs alongside music accompaniment from tambourines, and choreographed props including scarves and hats. The crowd enjoyed classic favorites like "This Little Light of Mine," songs from popular movies including "Moana," and power ballads like "CHAMPION!". They also offered a moving tribute to OVPA staff members for all they do for students.  Poetry in Motion Showcase: Student choreographers, dancers, and crew with our HSWCHS Dance Program hosted a wonderful showcase of work this week with a collection of meaningful, original works inspired by poetry. Each dance performance was based on a poem with a social justice theme. Talent Shows: We also enjoyed talent shows at HSWCHS and Park Magnet/Hot Springs Intermediate School, which are fun opportunities for our students to cheer for one another, build confidence, and celebrate the diverse ways that we all bring unique skill sets to day-to-day life.

I also want to share an anonymous shoutout to Mrs. Hatcher at our HSJA, see:  “Shout out times infinity to Mrs. Hatcher!!! She is one of those people who you truly want to be like. Her willingness to go above and beyond to do whatever she can to help out other staff members speaks volumes of her character. HSJA is blessed beyond measure to have her in our building. Thank you, Mrs. Hatcher for all you do!”

Trojan ‘Good Things’ is a weekly shout out from #HSSD Superintendent Dr. Stephanie Nehus to individuals in our school community who are doing amazing things! It is her goal to communicate all the positives happening in #HSSD.
