This week’s shout out goes to all staff members who have worked to make Summit Learning a successful learning platform for our students. Especially at the Junior Academy, I know you’ve all worked extremely hard with our students and our parents to help everyone become familiar with using Summit in the classroom and to monitor student progress, and hopefully - most importantly - engage in a way that enhances student learning.  I know we all still have many opinions about the best way to use this technology, but I am confident that our team of educators will continue working to use it in a way that provides the best educational experience available for our amazing students. See a parent shout out here to keep encouraging you, specifically regarding the work of several Junior Academy teachers in making Summit work for her daughter: “I was struggling with getting used to the curriculum lay out through Summit learning and I sent three emails to Mrs. Ward, Mrs. Springsteen and Mrs. Nelson, and I was replied back almost immediately!!! I am mind blown!!! They are amazing!!! I also wanted to let you know Mrs. Ward called me personally and talked to me in detail about my daughter’s math class and the work expected, and offered to help me move her to her advisory class!!! She is amazing, many kudos to her!! She told me to call or text if I needed any further assistance. I am so far amazed and shocked with the teachers within HSSD!!! Y’all are doing amazing work!!!! Keep it up!!!!! Thanks so much.”

Please see an anonymous shoutout here to Ms.Tawana Foxworth at our Gardner STEM Magnet School: “Ms. Foxworth is a secret ingredient of the success of Gardner School.  She has a tremendous work ethic which she conveys to students and staff alike through her words and also through her example. When one walks into her classroom, every inch of every wall has words conveying powerful messages.  My students love her hallway bulletin boards. This month, she has featured Dr. Martin Luther King. Students from all classes contribute their thoughts to her bulletin boards. She knows students will be interested in reading the thoughts of their schoolmates.  Reading is key to success in Ms. Foxworth's eyes! She is so kind and gentle when working with students. If a child is upset, she knows just the what that child needs to calm down and recuperate to return to class. She is a valuable staff member and a treasure to Gardner and the Hot Springs School District!”

Trojan ‘Good Things’ is a weekly shout out from #HSSD Superintendent Dr. Stephanie Nehus to those individuals in our school community who are doing amazing things! It is her goal to communicate all the positives happening in #HSSD. If you have any special events happening in your classes or buildings or if you know of someone we need to give a shout out to, please complete the form at
