This week I want to highlight a unique Unity Day celebration hosted at our HSIS today that raises awareness among students and staff about bullying.  Unity Day is sponsored by the National Bullying Prevention Center, and is the main event of National Bullying Prevention Month (every year in October). Since 2015, our HSIS has joined nationwide efforts to involve guest speakers, student performances, artwork, and even anti-bullying pledges in an afternoon Unity Day ceremony. Officer Tommy Norman of the North Little Rock Police Department was the special guest today and joined an excellent lineup of student entertainment. Thank you HSIS Staff and our wonderful students for remaining committed to keeping bullies and bullying out of the Hot Springs School District.

I also want to give a shout out to our HSWCHS Band - which earned First Division Ratings this week at the Region Marching Assessment. This qualifies them for the State Marching Assessment, which is held on Monday in Little Rock at War Memorial. We are so proud of these world class #HSSDTrojans!

I want to certainly acknowledge our senior athletes and band members, who will be honored this evening at the Senior Night Ceremony before our final home football game against Camden Fairview. Congrats to this special, talented, amazing group of Trojans.

Finally, see a shout-out submitted from anonymous HSSD staff for HSWCHS Economics & History Teacher Mr. Knott: “He is an amazing teacher who knows just how to capture the kid's hearts, keep them motivated to learn, treat them with respect, and teach them without overloading/overwhelming them all at the same time! His classroom communication skills with his students are top notch. He posts on Google Classroom daily to keep them caught up and aware of what is due and what is upcoming in his class. There is never a guess on their part if they are absent due to illness or a school function etc...or if they get home and need a refresher/reminder. They can access google classroom from anywhere and know exactly what they need to work on or prepare for in his class. The students love the fact that he writes positive comments on their returned assignments and even keeps 11th graders excited to get stickers on their papers.”

Trojan ‘Good Things’ is a weekly shout out from #HSSD Superintendent Dr. Stephanie Nehus to those individuals in our school community who are doing amazing things! It is her goal to communicate all the positives happening in #HSSD. If you have any special events happening in your classes or buildings or if you know of someone we need to give a shout out to, please complete the form at
