Park Magnet Elementary Remains Arkansas’s Top Elementary School

HOT SPRINGS, AR - Park Magnet Elementary School, an International Baccalaureate World School, remains the top elementary school in Arkansas based on ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) scores released by the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE). The school will receive $26,381.88 in Arkansas School Recognition Program funds based on the 2017-2018 student enrollment of 269 students to support the maintenance and growth of these excellent standards. Park Magnet is among only 51 Arkansas schools that achieved the top 5% tier of ESSA ratings, and is the only Garland County school to earn recognition in this category.

ADE and Governor Hutchinson announced that $6,999,963.62 will be awarded to 175 public schools through the Arkansas School Recognition Program, which provides awards to the top 10 percent of Arkansas schools based on ESSA ratings and criteria. Find the full release from the ADE, here.  Find the list of all 175 recipient schools, here.

Park Magnet has an ESSA School Index Score of 90.19. The state average is 70.86.  The ESSA replaced the No Child Left Behind Act, and was implemented differently on a state-to-state basis. In Arkansas, ESSA School Index Scores are measurements of school performance based on student achievement, growth in student achievement, general school quality and student success, and more. “I couldn’t be more proud of our dedicated teachers and staff, and our wonderful students. It takes a commitment to excellence every single day to maintain this status. Educators are here early and stay late to ensure that students are receiving all opportunities to master skills, learn critical thinking, and go above and beyond classroom standards. Thank you to our community and families for supporting our curriculum and special programs that reinforce the value of the highest learning standards possible,” says Park Magnet Principal Dr. Sarah Oatsvall.

“This district is doing amazing things in maintaining excellence and growing opportunities. Test scores do not begin to define the many ways our students are growing, learning, and contributing to our community. Park Magnet is a leader in our district, Garland County, and the state for test scores, and we could not be more proud of our staff and students that make this happen,” says Hot Springs School District Superintendent Dr. Stephanie Nehus.

The mission of the Hot Springs School District is to educate and empower each student to graduate from high school college and/or career ready, respect diversity, and to be contributing members of a global society. Learn more about HSSD, here or call 501-624-3372.
