The upcoming Park Magnet School Parent Night (tomorrow evening, 9/12, at 5:30 p.m.) is a new informational event for our parents about the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme. All Pre-K - 6th grade classrooms at Park use the IB PYP Programme curriculum, which sets us apart from almost every other elementary school in the state of Arkansas. We are so proud to have your student be part of such intense learning! We also want to make sure that our parents stay informed about the best ways to support and encourage student growth in such rigorous curriculum and practices.

As you likely already know as an IB parent, IB is one of the most prestigious international curriculum frameworks available, and is designed to challenge students to think for themselves and take responsibility for their learning. We explore local and global issues and opportunities in real life contexts. Tomorrow night, we will explain in detail how that applies to your kids.

IB Parent Night will last one hour. Parents and attendees may choose amid sessions that explore the critical elements of the IB PYP Programme. Among 15-minute sessions to be offered, look for: 1) Approaches to Learning - which explores the inquiry based teaching model, and development of social skills, research skills, thinking skills, communication skills, and more; 2) IB Learner Profile - which summarizes the ten characteristics that IB instills in all learners; and 3) Exhibition - which is a capstone learning experience for 6th grade IB PYP Programme students.

Is there something new to learn for all Park parents? ...Absolutely! Whether you are new to Park as a Pre-K or Kindergarten family, or you are a family with a 5th-6th grader, tomorrow evening will include valuable information for you. Please don’t miss this opportunity to discuss with us, and learn about more ways we can offer the best educational experience possible for our amazing students.

One final note for you as you make plans to attend, Park Magnet leadership is looking for a parent group to assist us in Self Study. The Self Study process is a phase within the five-year cycle of all IB schools, whereby leadership surveys peers, parents, and students for areas of improvement. This intense reflection will be used by Park Magnet leadership next year when the IB Programme provides an official audit at Park to ensure that all IB standards and protocols are being met.

As we share with our students - Park Magnet aspires to be a community of life-long IB learners. Come learn with us tomorrow evening!
