Two students from our Hot Springs Junior Academy G.R.A.C.E. (Girls Reaching Above Challenging Expectations) group, Heidi Jo Garrett and Anitsha Lewis, spoke today at the Women’s Leadership Council of Hot Springs Luncheon. The moving speech from HSJA Principal Mrs. Lenox and students followed an inspiring message from the luncheon’s other guest speaker Mrs. Lottie Shackleford, an  Arkansas Hall of Fame member and former Mayor of Little Rock. The message from both groups was focused on encouraging women of all ages to identify and work toward personal growth goals, spread kindness, find and act on ways to improve our world - no matter how big or small, and take care of each other.

Mrs. Lenox, Heidi and Anitsha were also sincere in their presentations to thank the Council for the generous grant provided to the G.R.A.C.E. group. Because of the Women’s Leadership Council of Hot Springs, G.R.A.C.E. students have taken multiple field trips and participated in numerous community service events and projects in the Hot Springs area and in Little Rock. “Because of you, we can expose these girls to places and things that they might not get to experience in their day-to-day communities. You’ve helped us to make a difference. We deeply appreciate your support and your commitment to our kids,” Mrs. Lenox told the ladies.

Two other members of the G.R.A.C.E. group, Alicia McCray and Paige Potter, were also at the luncheon to encourage our student speakers. All four students got to visit with Mrs. Shackleford about her accomplishments and political career following the luncheon.

The Women’s Leadership Council of Hot Springs’ primary mission is to empower girls and women through education. Since 2015, they have created an engaging and informative speaker series to help fund organizations that improve the lives of area girls and women.  Learn more about Council events, grants, and opportunities to donate and volunteer, here.
