Art Club Spreads Joy via Holiday Window Paintings
12/07/2020
The HSSD Art Club brought joy to residents of the Pines Nursing and Rehabilitation Center by painting holiday artwork on windows of two buildings this weekend! Mrs. Tipton shared, “ .. residents had only recently been given clearance to come out of their rooms, and interact with one another [due to COVID-19 precautions]. The gift today to each of them was not so much the designs, but rather our presence for them to watch …” Residents watched from the inside as our students created beautiful Christmas designs for almost the entire day on Saturday. Thank you to Maria and Jennifer, Activities Directors at the Center, for making this opportunity possible. Thank you to our talented Trojan artists who worked tirelessly and gave generously of their time: I'Leeuna Manning, Noelia Santos, Ariel Ward, Layla and Lilian Simpson, Kirsten Collins, Mia Brey, Angelica Hurtado, Yasmin Pacheco, and Betty Blue Steelman.

Law Enforcement Launches U Got Caught Program
11/11/2020
Our HSSD Institutional Law Enforcement Agency has launched a new program for our K--6 students called "U Got Caught!". This initiative allows our law enforcement officers (LEOs) to recognize students in front of their entire class for an act of good character, bravery, kindness, selflessness, or general good judgement. This program is focused on building relationships between our LEOs and young students, and on showing our kids that LEOs at every level are as interested in praising citizens for doing what is right, as they are in protecting the public from and/or punishing wrongdoers.

Parent/Teacher Conferences are an exciting, but exhausting time for educators. We all celebrate the time we get to spend providing real data to our parents AND the opportunity to receive feedback from our families about how we can make a student’s educational experience more effective and meaningful. This Trojan Good Things is very simply dedicated to your HARD WORK AND ABOVE AND BEYOND EFFORT this week to prepare for conferences. You worked late (which many of you are already doing anyway, I know). You communicated complicated and difficult things in some cases. You dealt with protocols and challenges that we’ve not had to deal with before in trying to communicate with our families. THANK YOU. Thank you for doing what is best - always - for our kids. Thank you for your compassion and kindness in trying to communicate with the families of our students, who must be part of our team in supporting and encouraging our kids. Thank you for doing everything in your power to make this school year work, no matter what we face. Our Trojan Family is so strong, and I’m proud of you all.

Where would we be without our outstanding IT Team? During a normal school year, our IT professionals are busy. During a COVID-19 school year, they are all juggling multiple levels of busy, and needed in four places at once - and yet they continue to stay on top of our IT needs with flexibility, kindness, and dedication! We have the most knowledgeable, professional, ingenuitive, and driven individuals in our IT Department. THANK YOU to our IT Team for all that you do to keep this district up and running, and for all that you are doing this year to address unprecedented IT needs. National IT Professionals Day was Tuesday, September 15 and today, I dedicate our Trojan Good things to our IT Department. Please make sure to send a “thank you” and always share appreciation with our IT team members in each of your buildings. They are the very best at what they do, and they are deeply valued and essential to our work as an educational institution.

Trojan Good Things, 9/11
09/11/2020
On this Patriots Day, the 19th anniversary of the tragic events of 9/11, I am so proud to honor all of YOU HEROES with this Trojan Good Things. This anniversary is about honoring and remembering the many lives lost, but most importantly for our kids it is about celebrating the strong American spirit and highlighting the many who came to the aid of Americans in need 19 years ago today. Please remember that all of you in education are also heroes. You show our kids the same spirit that so many exemplified on 9/11/2001. Thank you for your courage, dedication, and SPIRIT every day - especially as you work as educators during a crisis. May we never forget the tragic loss, as well as the amazing bravery and courage that took place in the aftermath of this anniversary. And, may we all continue to be inspired to carry on that legacy in our work as educators who are called to be heroes for our students. I also have several anonymous Good Things to share today … see more in this update:

We have so many staff members working hard - from our teachers and nurses and administrators, to our bus drivers, coaches, paraprofessionals, special services staff, cafeteria workers, administrative teams, and all in between. We see you and we thank you for doing more than you’ve ever been asked to do to make school possible. Our Trojan Good Things this week goes to our Football Teams. Our Junior High Team had a great win last night over our across-town rivals at Lake Hamilton. Our Varsity team travels tonight to Arkadelphia to play. We send good energy and love to our athletes, and we appreciate all of you who continue to cheer on all of our Trojan activities, sports, programs, and efforts. (We haven’t forgotten you volleyball, tennis, or golf - your Shoutout will come, too!). We also have an anonymous Good Thing to share about a deserving Trojan Nurse at Park Magnet, Mrs. Dawn Utsey … “I want to give a huge shoutout to Nurse Dawn Utsey. She is so kind and caring every morning and she always has a smile on her face. She takes the temps daily at Park and is so helpful with getting the children out of the cars in the rain, even if that means she gets wet (all so that the children don’t!).
