September 2018 Update

Two years ago this month, the Hot Springs community honored the Hot Springs School District with support of a millage increase to improve facilities across our district.  The two major projects the monies were set aside to complete were the new Langston Magnet Elementary School and the new Hot Springs Junior Academy.

General Improvements

The first promise kept was completed in the summer of 2017. A new roof was placed over a large portion of the current Junior Academy building. During that time, we also completed work on the band shell at Joe Reese Stadium, and added pavement and additional lighting to the visitor’s parking area. We are in the process of finalizing plans for a remodel of the library at the Hot Springs World Class High School, which is scheduled to begin during the summer of 2019.

Langston Magnet Elementary School New Facility

We are well on our way to meeting a completion period for the new Langston Magnet Elementary School of March, 2019, and planning for a move-in process of summer, 2019!   Once the new building is complete and we are able to move out of the current building - we will demolish the old structure, except for the gym, in order to build a playground and parking lot for the new campus.

We are currently working on the steel and concrete blocks at the front entrance/administration area of the campus, which is located near Silver and Palmetto Streets.  We have railing in place around the upper level lobby and stairs. All main level slabs are in place. The exterior walls of the east classroom wing are completed to full height.

Hot Springs Junior Academy New Facility

The Hot Springs Junior Academy is also moving right along.  It is so very thrilling to see the progress at this site. We must say a big thank you to our neighbors on Emory Street as we are kicking up lots of dust.   Along with dust, we have also received rather large deliveries. The roof joists for the 2,200 seat arena have arrived on site. We are continuing work on placement of cement blocks for the first floor of the Classroom Wing, which will be a three-story building.  The foundation and retaining wall work is progressing along the northern and western perimeter of the arena portion. We also have vertical rebar cages continuing under construction at the site. The majority of the north retaining wall has been cast. The west retaining wall is mostly complete.
