October 2018 Update

October Construction Report

Our excitement continues around the construction that is happening - on schedule - across our district.  We’ve had several projects completed and we are enthusiastic about adding to the list of completed projects in the coming months.

This month we are rounding out our efforts at Oaklawn Magnet, as crews complete the canopy work along the new drive.  Installation of the new canopy is scheduled for completion by Thanksgiving. We hope you’ll stop by in December to see the finished product, along Oaklawn Boulevard. We are proud to offer this improved space to keep our students, staff, and guests in the dry and in the shade as they enter our school.

Junior Academy Construction:

We are steadily making great progress on the New Junior Academy campus on Emory Street next to our Hot Springs World Class High School.

Cement masonry work on the first floor of the classroom wing is nearing completion.  The second floor steel in the classroom wing is mostly installed and metal decking is being cut and installed atop the steel.  Steel columns for the second floor of the classroom wing are being installed.

For the arena, the foundation work is progressing, with waterproofing of retaining walls on northern and western portions continuing.  There is fill being placed and compacted along the western border. Plumbing is close to halfway complete.

The auditorium, main lobby and band wing areas of the site have not yet begun.

Langston Magnet Construction:

We are about five months away from the scheduled completion of the new Langston Magnet Elementary School on Chestnut Street, which will be a state-of-the-art building. We are confident that our entire Hot Spring Community will be proud of this new campus.

The upper level floors to the main lobby are in place.  Cement masonry work is being completed for the upper level east classrooms, and for the lower level cafeteria and south classrooms.  The lobby stairs and rails are in place, and electrical work in lower level east classrooms has begun. The mechanical work in lower level east classrooms has also started.  The site has progressed enough that we can see the inner workings of the building, which HSSD leadership toured earlier this week. Before we know it, this will begin to look like a place to call “home” for all our K-6 Langston students.
