April, 2019 Update

It was in September of 2016, that the great citizens of Hot Springs passed a millage to allow the Hot Springs School District to construct two brand new buildings -- for our Langston Elementary Leadership Academy and the Hot Springs Junior Academy-- and to upgrade and remodel almost every one of the district’s campuses.  Over the past two and half years, we have completed several projects and we are rounding the corner on our new construction as we approach the end of the current school year.

Construction Overview

Millage projects completed to-date, include:

- Visitor’s parking lot paved at Joe Reese Stadium;

- Constructed band stand at Joe Reese Stadium;

- Replaced a large portion of the roof at Hot Springs Junior Academy; and

- Extended the drive in front of Oaklawn Visual & Performing Arts Magnet School

Millage projects still under construction:

- New construction of Langson Elementary Leadership Academy complex, and full demolition of the current Langston Elementary School (Construction to be complete June, 2019; New school to open fall of 2019)

- Complete remodel of Hot Springs World Class High School Library (Construction to be complete December, 2019)

- New construction of Hot Springs Junior Academy on Emory Street with 1,000 seat auditorium and 2,200 seat Arena (Anticipated completion in Fall of 2020)

Construction Update: Langston Elementary Leadership Academy

The roof of Langston is complete, and all access to the roof areas is in place.  We are now able to begin working on internal floors and walls. Most walls have been primed and prepped for paint. Cabinets have been installed in multiple areas. Flooring has been installed on the lower level, east classroom wing of the building. Crews are finishing up the outside brick, as well as preparing to finish the canopy of the front entrance.  The new Langston is really taking shape! We are excited to get into the building, this coming fall.

Construction Update: Hot Springs Junior Academy

The three-story Hot Springs Junior Academy classroom building will be accompanied by a 2,200 seat arena and a 1,000 seat auditorium. It makes quite an impression as you drive down Emory Street. The classroom wing of the building has 80% of the roof joists and deck installed. Concrete block work is continuing on the third floor. The heating and air system is 90% complete on the first and second floors of the classroom wing, The sprinkler system is 80% installed. The arena has the roof completed, and much of the arena concourse concrete work is completed. The HVAC system for the arena is also largely in place. While the project is right on schedule, we still have much work to be done and are looking forward to the opening of this complex in the fall of 2020!
