Trojans Love Reading Program Invites the Community to Read with a Trojan Student!

Trojans Love Reading is an initiative to build community support and excitement around reading! When elementary students feel this village approach from Trojan families and individuals/partners/leaders from the Hot Springs community, they are more likely to maintain and grow their own interest in reading and developing literacy skills. On three dates in February - April of 2023, we are inviting anyone in the Hot Springs community to support students in grades 1-6 at all four of our HSSD elementary school campuses by committing to read a book to two or more Trojan classes. We will have books and student escorts ready to take you to classrooms; all that you do is show up on one or all of the three dates listed below at 1:30 p.m., and bring your reading skills!

Dates:

  • Friday, February 3 at 1:30

  • Friday, March 3 at 1:30

  • Friday, April 14 at 1:30

HSSD Elementary Schools and Locations:

  • Langston Elementary Leadership Academy (300 Silver Street)

  • Main Street Visual & Performing Arts Magnet School (701 Main Street)

  • Oaklawn STEM Magnet School (301 Oaklawn Boulevard)

  • Park Magnet, an IB World School (617 Main Street)

Who Can Serve as a Trojan Reader?

  • We invite any adult or teen from the Hot Springs community to participate! We will have books and student escorts ready to take you to classrooms.

    • If you have a relative, friend, or connection with a specific student or teacher at one of our four elementary schools, you can request specifically to read to a classroom of your choice when you arrive.

    • It’s also okay if you don’t know anyone at our schools, we would still love to have you read! A team will greet you at the door and assign you to a classroom. Our students will be happy to see you!

    • If one of our Trojan teens is hoping to participate, they should get in touch with their Library Media Specialist at the Hot Springs Junior Academy or Hot Springs World Class High School. We will be providing transportation on the three dates to allow our students in grades 7-12 to also participate.

How do you Participate as a Trojan Reader?

  • We will have books and student escorts ready to take you to classrooms; all that you do is show up on one or all of the three dates listed above at 1:30 p.m., and bring your reading skills!

    • If you are a Trojan parent, feel free to simply reach out to your child’s teacher and let them know you would like to read.

  • If you are an individual or volunteer group from our community, please send an RSVP or request for additional information to barnesa@hssd.net. We will happily assign you to a school to attend, if you don’t already have a preference.

Thank you for your participation in building a community of strong readers across the Hot Springs School District!
