SIDEWINDER
What moves sideways and can’t see or hear well,
skips with its body as it moves, and has scales? A sidewinder!!
The sidewinder is about two feet long, and venomous.
It has very hard scales. Snakes can smell better than humans.
Sidewinders live in the desert. They lie in the sun
to keep warm and move in the shade to cool down because they are
cold-blooded. Snakes keep growing until they die. Every snake is
strong for its size. Pound for pound, snakes have more muscles that
many other kinds of animals. As a snake grows larger, it sheds its
outer skin to make room for a larger body.
The sidewinder eats lizards. Some sidewinders
sleep at night and some sleep in the day. It moves in an s-shape and it
has a flexible body that also goes in an o-shape. A very interesting
fact is that it has a forked tongue that can smell for them. They also
have hard scales to protect them.
