Kindergarten
Learn basic elements and
principals of design, correct use of materials and supplies, and become aware of
art in their world. Introduce famous artists and create artwork that reflects a
variety of cultures and styles of art.
First Grade
Expand the basic skills to
personal self-expression in artwork. Use the elements and principals of design
as a visual language to express feelings and emotions through the use of a wide
variety of media and techniques. Famous artist works from a variety of styles,
cultures, and historical eras will show the student the importance of art as a
form of communication. Learn how art is related to all areas of life.
Second Grade
Stress the use of the elements
of art as a tool for artists to express meaning in artwork. Experience a wide
variety of media and subject-matter as they learn to express personal feelings
and emotions in artwork. Become aware of the principles of art in artwork. Art
appreciation will be cultivated through classroom experiences.
Third Grade
Introduce the use of line as a
means of expression of emotions or motion in artwork. Learn that color choice in
artwork expresses feelings of the artists. Explore a wide variety of painting
techniques. Use the art of multiple images to create artwork. Learn the cultural
influences in arts and crafts. Use drawings as a study tool and a finished
product.
Fourth Grade
Demonstrate knowledge of the
use of lines, shapes, color, texture, value, space, and the form using a variety
of media. Recognize balance, pattern, and movement in artwork. Learn how
history, culture, and emotions influence artwork. Recognize the work of famous
Impressionist artists. Work on extended classroom projects.
Fifth Grade
Develop the artistic skills in
painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, and crafts. Use knowledge of the
elements and principals of design in all work and be able to evaluate both their
own and others works using critical analysis of artwork. Learn a chronological
history of artwork and how art has evolved with society. Artwork as a mirror to
a group or culture will be understood by the study of a wide variety of cultures
and historical eras.
