Outstanding Awards

Milken Award 

Tammy Easterday, Langston's Literacy Coach, was named as a recipient of the 2004-2005 Milken Award.  Mrs. Easterday was presented with the award on October 14th at a school-wide assembly.  She was chosen for her dedication to the language curriculum.  Mrs. Easterday has incorporated a literacy based curriculum for grades K-5.
Hogan & Hartson Magnet School of Merit Award
At the annual national conference Langston Aerospace and Environmental Studies Magnet School was chosen as one of the top two magnet schools in America by Magnet Schools of America.  The Hogan and Hartson Magnet School of Merit Award is an honor bestowed on a school who  ensures that all students meet high academic standards, develops and implements innovative curriculum and provides opportunities for students from diverse backgrounds to have educational benefits of learning together.
 
Glenn Hendricks Magnet School of Merit Award
At the annual Magnet Schools of Texas Conference Langston Aerospace & Environmental Studies Magnet was chosen as an outstanding magnet school.  The school was presented with the Glenn Hendricks Magnet School of Merit Award for Exemplary Performance.  Langston is the only school outside of Texas to ever win the award.  The award is for academic achievement, increased enrollment and enthusiastic participation of the staff, students, parents and community.
                        
 
NASA Explorer School
Langston Magnet was one of fifty schools chosen for the maiden voyage of participating with NASA to promote science, technology, engineering and mathematics in the curriculum.  Included in the program is career awareness and exposure to all NASA materials, information and communication.

                                                       

Civil  Air  Patrol  Class Award

Chris Holzer's fourth grade class completed all requirements to be named an outstanding Civil Air Patrol Aerospace Education Excellence Award (AEX) Program winner.  Mrs. Holzer used materials and planned lessons to enlighten her students to the wonders of aerospace while emphasizing the importance of science, technology, and math in today's society.  The class was given a plaque in recognition for their hard work.

 

               World Space Week Teacher Award

Shelly Clark, 5th grade teacher, was chosen as the World Space Teacher of Space Week.  Ms. Clark was chosen based on her outstanding educational projects that promoted aerospace activities.  This award is presented by the Spaceweek International Association.  Ms. Clark received $500.00 to buy materials to expand her thematic approach to the curriculum.

                                                                                                                                         

 
Tyler Has The Right Stuff
Tyler, Langston Magnet fifth grade student, was chosen as the outstanding camper at Huntsville's Space Camp.  Tyler was recognized at the ending ceremony and presented with a certificate for his excellent behavior and work ethic.

                                                                                                                           

Outstanding Robotis by Jinx Team
At Space Camp in Huntsville Alabama the Jinx Team won the award for outstanding robotics by building the best performing robot.  Brandon, Austin and Nick programmed their robot to carry oxygen bottles through a simulated air lock.  The fifth grade students had one of the highest scores to be recorded at Space Camp.

                                                                                

 

                                                                                                         

Telly  Award  Finalist

Arion's Josh Baxter and Langston Magnet were selected as a finalist for the Telly Award for Destinities Crossed.  The award honors outstanding local, regional and cable television commercials and programs and the finest video and film productions.  Destinities Crossed is a documentary that was made concerning the staff and students' connection with the shuttle Columbia.  Over 10,000 enteries were made from all 50 states and continents and is a widely known and respected national and international competition.
 

Blue Cross Blue Shield Oustanding Class

Janie Hill's kindergarten class was chosen as the local winner of the Arkansas Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Ann Ewe contest for the 2003-2004 school year.  After the students practiced healthy habits through out the school year, they entered their art into the contest.  The students and teacher were presented with a bag of goodies and a healthy party.
