This workshop will focus on Moodle and provide opportunities for those interested in or just starting to use Moodle, as well as those wishing to enhance their current Moodle expertise. Sessions will focus on topics such as the Moodle gradebook, steps in Moodle page design, and an introduction to Moodle. Also, there will be hands-on sessions where participants can work on an individual course with the aid of instructional technologists. By the end of the workshop, participants should feel comfortable enough with Moodle to build course sites.

Day 1 will introduce the beginner or novice Photoshop user to the tools, workspace, and capabilities of Adobe Photoshop. Topics will include: An overview of the Photoshop workspace, an Introduction to the tools, filters, and effects, and additional topics, like: Image retouching, image manipulation, and creating composite images drawn from multiple image sources. 

Day 2 is designed for users who have some experience with Adobe Photoshop, including participants from the introductory workshop who wish to broaden their knowledge and experience of the program.  If you use Photoshop with your own photos, or you maintain or contribute images to a website or blog, this workshop is for you. Planned topics include: Photoshop & Photography: Image adjustments using the adjustments menu and adjustment layers, and batch processing techniques. Photoshop and the Web: Preparing images for the web, creating GIF animations, and optimizing images for web.   Participants are asked to bring 10 or more photographs to work with, preferably a mix of people, places, and things. If you have images you want to fix or improve, or put on a website, bring them! They may be prints or in digital format.

Using Technology to Improve Physical Fitness and Reduce Stress for Educators – with Garmin Forerunner 405 bundle and Hike Hot Springs Nat. Park -

The Natural State is the perfect setting for outdoor enthusiasts who are looking to improve their physical fitness.  Register for this workshop if you would like to learn how easy it is to monitor your workouts and progress using the ultimate in training technology, the Garmin Forerunner 405.  This GPS-enabled gadget monitors your time, distance, route, pace, calories, and heart rate when walking, running, and hiking.  It then uses wireless technology to automatically transfer data to your computer for your analysis.  Regular exercise has been proven to reduce the effects of stress, stimulate brain activity, and regulate health concerns.  If you are ready to spend a day exploring Hot Springs National Park while learning how to use this technology to improve your life, sign up for this workshop.  All participants will receive the Garmin Forerunner 405 with heart rate monitor.

You can use this to make a videos podcast, videos for student instruction, home/school communication pieces, professional development videos, and more. You’ll also learn how to use Windows Movie Maker to edit, add music and narration, output your movie, and post it to the Internet.

This workshop will explore and explain the uses of wikis, blogs and pod or web casting and other forms of social media in classrooms to increase student learning and motivation. It will provide teachers with a workable understanding of these relevant technologies and how teachers and students could use them to enhance both reading and writing across the curriculum. Teachers will leave with an understanding of how to design, set up and perpetuate a blog using WordPress (a free tool), how to create a wiki for your classroom projects using Wikispaces and/or PBWiki and how to use free tools to record and post podcasts and web casts to these sites. Workshop content will also include exploring strategies to enhance instruction using these social media programs.

Part 1 is designed to give teachers of all disciplines information on the latest innovations in technology.  Included in the presentation will be a discussion of ways to find instruction materials on the Internet, how to find open source software that is free and easy to use and replaces the “paid for” software, a demonstration of amimoto, photostory 3, Movie Maker, Podcasting, Blogging, audio editing, the Jing Project, and web page design.  The workshop will also feature some of the best video and audio resources on the web along with a demonstration of how to download and use these materials. Part of the time will be devoted to developing literacy strategies using technology.  The presentation will also include an introduction to “Elvis The Teacher.”

Part 2 will show teachers how to create an animoto, a podcast, a blog, a photostory, a short video, a powerpoint with imbedded media, an audio recording that can be remixed or edited, record on-screen demonstrations with Jing Project, and other projects in which teachers may have an interest .  All of these projects can be created with free or inexpensive software and hardware.  I demonstrate how to create the projects and help the participants create their own projects.  This workshop is appropriate for all levels and disciplines.
