I get calls every day. Seem to the resident guru on Flips and how to make the software compatible with other programs. Some newbies will just now be needing this info. If not needed, that is ok so just tell me and I will submit something else.

Converged Infrastructure

descriptionofpresentation:

One of the most pressing problems that schools are wrestling with is IT sprawl, resulting in what we call the 70/30 dilemma. To understand that, it’s helpful to look at the challenges IT departments are facing:
-High levels of unpredictability
-Need for new ways of planning growth and development
-Demand for increased flexibility to meet changing service level agreements
-Reliance on innovation to fuel success
-Belief that technology can unlock new opportunities for educating students
In the face of these demands, schools are clamoring for IT to increase its value to the organization. We believe that IT has the resources to do so. But because of sprawl, those resources are tangled up in legacy architectures and inflexible stacks. Consider the critical needs IT has:
-Control skyrocketing operating and management costs
-Transform IT infrastructure and processes
-implement ITSM and/or shared services
-Limit datacenter space
-implement server consolidation or virtualization
-Improve business continuity and accelerate disaster recovery
-Move off of legacy servers and cut costs with an industry-standard platform

At HP, we’re in datacenters every day. We see good technology wasted by being chronically underutilized and smart people whose skills are wasted dealing with issues and complexities that are easily addressed.
Because of complexity and sprawl, HP estimates that up to 70 percent of the typical IT budget is spent on operations and maintenance. That leaves 30 percent for business innovation that will generate growth, such as deployment of new applications and services that make the school more efficient. Ultimately, the school suffers. As datacenters become more complex, the time, risk, and cost to deliver IT projects increases.
What schools need are solutions that maximize the value of existing equipment and reduce time and resources needed to manage operations. They need access to a broad product portfolio and the assurance that what they deploy today has a long, innovative and stable road map to support future demands.
The challenge is unleashing existing potential. HP has the solution and believe our partner resellers are in position to help deliver it.

Additionalcomments:

1. I would really like to present in a room with a SMART Board. If that is not possible, please r emove SMART Board from the title.
2. I would like to present a Part A and a Part B rather than repeat the same session, but I will be happy to present what you need for the conference.

3. Part A would be directed to administrators and give an overview of how the technology is used in the classroom. Part B would use Action Consequence documents to investigate mathematics concepts.

This session should be held in a room with access to computer stations for the attendees. Information Transport Systems Design Standard for K-12 Educational Institutions

descriptionofpresentation:

Education in schools is rapidly changing as new technology and teaching methodologies are embraced by teachers, instructors and school administrators. BICSI 001 is the first standard available that is solely written for the design of ITS systems used within the educational environments of K-12 (primary and secondary) schools and facilities. Providing information that cuts across multidisciplinary design efforts, this standard provides direction allowing for savings in building constructions and renovation, as well as the planning of future growth and changes.

In addition, given the specialized needs of the end users—the students themselves—BICSI 001 goes beyond comparable design standards, by providing guidance in the selection and implementation of materials, such as types of cabling, to provide a safe environment for all.

The BICSI 001 standard will provide value to:

K-12 facility owners and operators
Architects
Engineers
Telecommunications and information technology (IT) consultants
Project managers
Telecommunications/IT technology installers
Any other corporation or individual involved within the design, installation or maintenance of technology systems in the classroom

This workshop will mostly not focus on pre-fabricated Gallery objects, but rather, the more useful and/or creative applications of Notebook features. Time permitting, we will also spend some time ‘reverse engineering’ some SMART Board lessons to identify examples of skills learned. A sample of topics includes, but is not limited to: Locking/Grouping/Ordering/Linking in depth, and their applications; Animation in Notebook; Themes; Advanced Toolkit 2.0; new features on the latest Notebook release, v10.6; how to embed YouTube clips into lessons, etc.

SMART Board "Remediation"

descriptionofpresentation:

This workshop is for teachers who need a safe, slow paced, hands-on experience of SMART Board basics and fundamental skills you ‘need to know’. This is especially for those who have felt overwhelmed in other SMART Board training workshops, and/or teachers who have not yet been successful getting started on their SMART Board. Emphasis will be on re-learning the ‘basics’ and the ‘big picture’ to help users who feel pressure to 'catch up.'

Promethean Activ Board needed for presentation

I will present however many times you want or need me to. :)

I did not include Promethean in the title or description of the presentation, because many of the ideas can be adapted for use with any interactive board.

Classroom Acoustics, Learning and Classroom Audio Technologies Connections

descriptionofpresentation:

This course is a study of how a child’s learning process can be impaired by a noisy classroom environment. Children are immature listeners who have to listen more precisely than adults to recognize and comprehend speech. Poor classroom acoustics can contribute to problems with speech perception and interfere with comprehension. Acoustics and classroom audio technologies work together to improve the classroom’s learning environment. Learn about the connections amongst classroom acoustics, student learning and classroom audio technologies.

Using Gizmos to Improve Conceptual Understanding

descriptionofpresentation:

Through an EETT Grant, all 6th-8th grade math and science teachers and students have free access to ExploreLearning's online Gizmos.

Learn how online Gizmos help teachers take advantage of research-proven instructional strategies and help students of all ability levels develop conceptual understanding in math and science. Teachers can supplement and enhance instruction with powerful interactive visualizations of concepts. Students can manipulate key variables, generate and test hypotheses, and engage in extensive “what-if” experimentation.

The presenter will demonstrate Explore Learning’s online simulations, called “Gizmos”. The Gizmo library includes over 450 simulations, all with inquiry-based lessons, correlations to state standards, formative assessment and real-time reporting for teachers.

netTrekker - So Much More Than Searching

descriptionofpresentation:

Do you have netTrekker? If you are a member of a Coop you do! Come learn how netTrekker connects educators and students to hundreds of thousands of online educational resources, safely and efficiently. netTrekker also differentiates those resources to help educators individualize and personalize instruction based on the needs of their students. In this session, you’ll also learn how to search by curriculum standard, use the Read Aloud and Dictionary Hotkey, refine your search based on the types of resources you need, and how to save and organize resources to create online projects and assignments students can access anywhere they have internet. Feel free to also come by the booth to find out how we can get your school or district up and running with netTrekker.

Cascade savings with Deduplication and virutualization

descriptionofpresentation:

The shift from physical servers to consolidated, virtualized server infrastructures has had undeniable IT benefits. However, the rapid move to Virtualization has caused traditional approaches to replication and disaster recovery (DR) to become outmoded and added a layer of complexity to replication and DR implementation.

By using deduplication on your primary storage systems, you can substantially reduce the amount of data in your primary storage environment. This reduction results in a cascading benefit to your downstream infrastructure, reducing the bandwidth necessary for replication and the storage necessary at the DR site.

Next Gen Web 2.0 in Education: ePals LearningSpace

descriptionofpresentation:

Different usernames, passwords, and registration forms for email, blogs, wikis, and other web 2.0 tools are driving you crazy. Is student data safe? Overwhelmed by managing and updating all these different tools? ePals LearningSpace is a safe, protected virtual workspace platform designed specifically for K-12. Everything sits in one online school space, eliminating “web sprawl.” LearningSpace combines ePals communication tools (email, blogs, wikis, forums, shared portfolios) with documents and schoolwork (Word, PowerPoint, PDFs, media galleries, class videos and files) and your approved contact groups (classmates, teachers, parents, even class mentors). The ePals Global Community is the largest K12 online community, in 200 countries with 600,000 classrooms and millions of students and teachers. At the end of the conference, a school license to ePals LearningSpace will be raffled off. (in lieu of paying a vendor fee)
