Second - Fifth Grade Lesson Plans Typing Practice Lessons and Electronic Portfolio Introduction · Internet Explorer – Typingmaster.com (This is a downloaded program on the lab computers, but can be accessed and downloaded for home use and practice as well.) · Gardner Network Folders · Microsoft PowerPoint Activities: 1) Students will begin by checking their work area. 2) Students will open the Web-based Program, Typing Master.com. 3) Students will begin working on their typing lessons. 4) Each student will complete lessons at their individual pace. The lessons will include typing lessons and game reviews. 5) Students will open the Electronic Portfolio Template for their grade level from the network folders. 6) The template will be edited by the student to personalize the beginning slide with their name. 7) The template will then be saved in their personal folder on the network for revisiting in another lesson. 8) Students will exit all programs and windows on their computer and prepare their “office station” for the next “employee.”
Steps: Typing Practice: Students will begin working with the program Typing Master.com. (approx. 30 minutes of this week’s class period. Students will: 1.
Click on "Typing Master.com" Electronic Portfolio Template: Students will open, edit, and save a copy of their grade level’s electronic portfolio. Students will: 1. Click on "Start" 2. Go to "My Computer" 3. Select "Data on 'gardner' (F:)" 4. Select "00-gardner classes: 5. Select "00 - Student Projects" 6. Choose “their grade level” 7. Select “the PowerPoint template” for their grade level from the folder 8. Once it is highlighted, press “Enter” to open the template 9. Edit the opening slide to have the student’s name a. Double click on “Name” b. Type in First and Last Name i. Students use the “space bar” to complete on one line ii. Students use the “enter” key to complete on two lines c. Click “OK” 10. Select “File” from the toolbar menu 11. Choose “Save As” 12. Once the “Save As” window is opened, click on “their homeroom teacher’s” folder and press “Enter” 13. Select “their name” and press the “Enter” key 14. Select “My Portfolio” and press the “Enter” key 15. Click on the “Save” button in the lower right hand corner of the window 16. This will save the Electronic Portfolio Template in their personal folder. 17. Students will then exit all opened windows on their screen by clicking on the “Red X” in the top right hand corner of each opened window. 18. Students will stand up and prepare their work station for the next “employee” a. Straighten their Keyboard b. Straighten their mouse pad and mouse c. Make sure microphones and headphones are in their proper place d. Push chairs in completely under the table 19. We will announce the winner for the day (student with the computer sign matching that displayed on the SmartBorad for the day). 20. Students exit the lab quietly as the next class enters.

Discuss basic issues related to responsible use of technology and information and describe personal consequences of inappropriate use. (2) 4. Use general purpose productivity tools and peripherals to support personal productivity, remediate skill deficits, and facilitate learning throughout the curriculum. (3) 5. Use technology tools (e.g., multimedia authoring, presentation, Web tools, digital cameras, scanners) for individual and collaborative writing, communication, and publishing activities to create knowledge products for audiences inside and outside the classroom.
