Kindergarten - First Grade Lesson Plans

Tuesday Classes will attend the Fire Prevention Presentation

Kindergarten Classes:

will use the PBS web site at:

http://pbskids.org/clifford/games/beach.html

This site allows the students to practice using their mouse to click on objects and to use the mouse to click and drag items.
Once the students master using their mouse to click and to drag, they will be able to explore other games on the site.

The students will receive a "Welcome Card" from me.

First Grade Classes:

Session 1 of TechnoArtist

Overview:     In this session, students will become artists.  Using the computer, students will create a painting by coloring in a black and white picture using Microsoft Paint.  This activity builds on their mouse control skills as they select different colors and apply them to the picture using the Fill with Color tool.

Materials:      Microsoft Paint
                    Artist Images Folder
                    Color Cards
                    Beach Sample File
                    Flashcards: Microsoft Paint

Lesson Plan:
Group Discussion – Students will become inspired artists, preparing their own art collection.  Tis collection will be placed in their portfolio.

Discuss terms –

·       What is an artist?  An artist is a person with imagination who created art, such as paintings.  Artists display their work in an art gallery.

·       What is a portfolio?  A portfolio is a collection of work such as assignments, projects, papers, etc. that have been completed and saved to showcase and share with others.  We will be placing your artwork in the Technology Portion of your Electronic Portfolio.

·       How do we pain using the computer?  Students will create paintings, but they will not use regular paint and paint brushes like they use in the classroom.  Instead, we will use the computer to create amazing pictures.  Using the computer to make art is often better than using real art tools because mistakes can easily be erased and there are fun tools such as a spray can.

Assignment One – Rainbow of Colors

In this session, students create with colors.  We will discuss that colors come in many different shades.  Shades of color refer to whether the color is dark or light.  Although they look a little different they are still the same color, just different shades.

Assignment Two – Painting a Picture

In this assignment students label the parts of the Microsoft Pain window.  Students will label the window by pointing to the parts as we discuss them aloud.

Assignment Three – Pain a Picture
