Second - Fifth Grade Lesson Plans

Introduction to Typing

Notes: I will continue checking assignments this week.  Students who have not completed the web page homework and typed their information into the Word FORM document will come into the lab during their recess time to complete their work.

Materials:

·        Internet Explorer

 Activities:

1)    Students will begin by checking their work area.

2)    Students will open the Web-based Program, Typing Master.com.

3)  Students will take the pre-test to determine their words per minute. 

4)  Each student’s diploma will be printed – one copy to take home and one copy to file for comparison after working in the program.

5)  Once the diplomas are printed, students will use the remaining time to explore the typing games.

 Steps:

Students will be working with the program Typing Master.com.

 Students will:

1.     Click on "Typing Master.com"
2.     Press “Enter”
3.  Each student will enter their name into the program
4.  Click on the link for “Testing”
5.  Select the test “The Day the Zebra Lost Its Spots”
6.  Take the 10 minute timed test
7.  Print each student’s diploma – 2 copies:  1 for home and 1 for records
8.  Students use the remaining time to explore the games on the site

4. Use developmentally appropriate multimedia resources (e.g., interactive books, educational software, elementary multimedia encyclopedias) to support learning. (1)

7. Practice responsible use of technology systems and software. (2)

Prior to completion of Grade 5, students will:

4.      Use general purpose productivity tools and peripherals to support personal productivity, remediate skill deficits, and facilitate learning throughout the curriculum. (3)

9.      Determine when technology is useful and select the appropriate tool(s) and technology resources to address a variety of tasks and problems. (5, 6)
