Third, Fourth, and Fifth Grade Lesson Plans:

Electronic Portfolios

Materials:

·        Gardner Network Folders

·        Microsoft PowerPoint

·      Personalized Portfolio

  • Microsoft PhotoStory 3

 

Third, Fourth, and Fifth Grade ~       

The students will locate and open their personal electronic portfolio located on the network.  Below are the steps they should follow in opening the template.

Click Start
Choose “My Computer”
Choose “Data on ‘gardner’ (F:)”
Choose “00 gardner classes”
Choose “00 Student Projects”
Select “their grade level”
Choose "their teacher"
Choose "their folder"
Click on "My Portfolio"
Open "their grade level portfolio 2006 - 2007"
Open the Portfolio (PowerPoint Presentation)

Students will continue working to personalize their portfolio.  They will also continue working on their recorded reading file (each student will read a 60-90 second passage from a book of their choice to showcase their reading ability).  They will also add the section for “What they look forward to next year… or what it will be like for them next year as a ___ grader”.  Once they have completed the editing for the session, they will need to save their work:

We will exit out of the program by clicking on the “red X” in the top right corner of the screen.
If it ask ~ Click “Yes” to save the changes.
Click on the “red X” to exit out of the network folder window to return to the original screen.

 

If time allows, students will work on creating a short PhotoStory 3 presentation of themselves and their friends!  This will be linked to their Electronic Portfolio.

Students will also practice opening and showing their Electronic Portfolio for the Exhibition coming up next week!

Prior to completion of Grades 3-5, students will:

3.      Discuss basic issues related to responsible use of technology and information and describe personal consequences of inappropriate use. (2)

4.      Use general purpose productivity tools and peripherals to support personal productivity, remediate skill deficits, and facilitate learning throughout the curriculum. (3)

5.      Use technology tools (e.g., multimedia authoring, presentation, Web tools, digital cameras, scanners) for individual and collaborative writing, communication, and publishing activities to create knowledge products for audiences inside and outside the classroom. (3, 4)

6.      Use telecommunications efficiently and effectively to access remote information, communicate with others in support of direct and independent learning, and pursue personal interests. (4)

7.      Use telecommunications and online resources (e.g., e-mail, online discussions, Web environments) to participate in collaborative problem-solving activities for the purpose of developing solutions or products for audiences inside and outside the classroom. (4, 5)
