Kindergarten ~ TECHNOBasics

Computer Basics: Session 5 & 6

In this session students will review the terms "input" and "output".  They then open Kid Pix Deluxe 3 and make a picture.  Upon completion, students apply their knowledge learned throughout TechnoBasics to determine what are computer parts and which are not, by completing the Computer Confusion assignment.

Materials:

·        KidPix Deluxe 3

·        KidPix Deluxe 3 Flashcards

Printing Rules -

1.     Students only click PRINT when it is their turn to avoid overloading the printer.

2.     Only the teacher waits for the work to print at the printer and then passes it out to the students.

3.     Printing only occurs when the students' work is finished and ready to be printed - approved by the teacher.

4.     If documents are not completely printed when students leave to return to class, the unprinted documents will be sent to the students' class once they are all finished.

Lesson Summary:

The students will earn their Computer Drivers License:
In this session, students will create a picture in Kid Pix Deluxe 3 using all the mouse and keyboard skills they have learned in this project.  When they have completed, we will talk about what computer parts they used to make their picture and whether they were input or output devices.

Lesson Activities:

Activity Sheet One for Today:

Input or Output? -
Students will circle the correct label for each computer part: input or output.

 Activity Sheet Two for Today:

Find the Computer Parts Used for Input -
Students will circle the parts used for input.

Activity Sheet Three for Today:

Review Input and Output Devices -
Students will color the input devices blue and they will color the output devices red.

 Activity Sheet Four for Today:

Mr. Miller's Technology Lab News Letter

  Dear Parents,

We have just completed TechnoBasics. In this project, students became acquainted with the computer. This introduction included activities to identify computer hardware, and rules when using the computer. TechnoBasics concentrated on the development of the fine motor skills children need to operate the mouse. Your child learned how to "click" the mouse and navigate it to objects on the screen to achieve the desired result. As well, terms like "click and hold" and "click and drag", and the mouse buttons were introduced and practiced.

We used the web site http://pbskids.org/clifford/games/beach.html to practice our skills.  The site also offers a variety of educational games and activities for the kids to use.  The early learning software, KidPix Deluxe3 (which is available through our fundraiser software program for $10 – regularly priced it costs $29.95) was introduced to encourage your child's enthusiastic interaction with the computer.

A Computer Drivers License was issued to declare competent and safe computer usage.  CONGRATULATIONS on a job WELL DONE to each of the students!
