We have just completed TechnoBasics. In this project, students became acquainted with the computer. This introduction included activities to identify computer hardware, and rules when using the computer. TechnoBasics concentrated on the development of the fine motor skills children need to operate the mouse. Your child learned how to "click" the mouse and navigate it to objects on the screen to achieve the desired result. As well, terms like "click and hold" and "click and drag", and the mouse buttons were introduced and practiced. We used the web site http://pbskids.org/clifford/games/beach.html to practice our skills. The site also offers a variety of educational games and activities for the kids to use. The early learning software, KidPix Deluxe3 (which is available through our fundraiser software program for $10 – regularly priced it costs $29.95) was introduced to encourage your child's enthusiastic interaction with the computer. A Computer Drivers License was issued to declare competent and safe computer usage. CONGRATULATIONS on a job WELL DONE to each of the students! Students acquired and enhanced the following technical skills:
I am really looking forward to our next unit of study. I hope both you and your child are enjoying the progress we are making in our technological studies here at Gardner. We still have a lot of great things ahead of us for this year and I want to thank you for allowing me the opportunity to work with you and your child. It is amazing to watch and see them grow in their knowledge and computer skills. I hope they are sharing with you all of the great things they are learning. I wish you the best for a great rest-of-the-week! Sincerely,
