Computer Basics: Session 3 & 4

In this session students are introduced to the terms "input" and "output".  To learn more about  this terminology, students open Kid Pix Deluxe 3 and make an artistic design that when drawn makes sound.  Afterwards, they discuss what parts of the computer were used to put information INTO the computer and what parts were used to put information OUR of the computer.  The students will also discuss and identify what are computer parts and which are not, buy completing the Computer Confusion assignment.

Materials:

• KidPix Deluxe 3

• KidPix Deluxe 3 Flashcards

Printing Rules -

1. Students only click PRINT when it is their turn to avoid overloading the printer.

2. Only the teacher waits for the work to print at the printer and then passes it out to the students.

3. Printing only occurs when the students' work is finished and ready to be printed - approved by the teacher.

4. If documents are not completely printed when students leave to return to class, the unprinted documents will be sent to the students' class once they are all finished.

Activity Sheet One for Today:

Input or Output? -
Students will circle the correct label for each computer part: input or output.

Activity Sheet Two for Today:

Find the Computer Parts Used for Input -
Students will circle the parts used for input.

Activity Sheet Three for Today:

Review Input and Output Devices -
Students will color the input devices blue and they will color the output devices red.

Activity Sheet Four for Today:

Computer Confusion -
Students will find the computer parts and circle them.

Review the day's lessons with the students.

Students in grades 1-2 will be working on their web page from from the folders on the network.

They will continue typing in their information for the form.

Students will choose the color they would like to use for their web page background.

Students will save their work in their web page folder.

The time that remains will be used exploring Kid Pix Deluxe 3.

We will also discuss the Technology Lab Software Fund Raiser information that is going home with the students this week offering parents to order software at a discounted price while offering the Tech Lab to raise money for additional software and programs.
