Computer Basics: Session 3 & 4
In this lesson, students will open the program KidPix Deluxe 3. They
click and drag with the Spray Can to create unique animated designs.
The students will use the Text tool to create a text box in which they will
type their name. Students will then learn about the text tools for
font, size, color, and alignment. Students will then clear the screen
and create a new screen with solid color background. Next will be work
using the Eraser Tool to create a drawing. by erasing the color on the
screen to create their pictures. Again, the students will add their
name.
Materials:
KidPix Project 1-

Open the program
-
Click on the "Drawing Tools"
-
Click the Spray Can
-
Click on the Balloons
-
Move the mouse to the empty screen
-
Click and hold the left mouse button
-
Drag the mouse
-
Fill the screen with balloons
-
Click on the Text Tool
-
Type in your name
-
Change the text: color, size, font, alignment, style
-
Clear the canvas (click the full page eraser - the dynamite)
KidPix Project 2-
-
Click the Paint Bucket
-
Click the Solid Bucket
-
Click on the solid square
-
Click the Color Picker
-
Click on Black
-
Click in the empty screen area to paint the entire screen black
-
Click on the Eraser Tool
-
Click on the Pencil Eraser
-
Click the left side of your mouse and drag to erase the color to reveal your
picture drawing
-
Click on the Text Tool
-
Type Your Name in the text box
-
Edit Text font, color, size, and alignment
-
Click on the Print Tool
-
Print Full Page if time allows
-
Click on the Full Page Eraser (dynamite)
-
Exit the Program (click exit)
-
Click No
Printing Rules -
-
Students only click PRINT when it is their turn to avoid overloading the
printer.
-
Only the teacher waits for the work to print at the printer and then passes
it out to the students.
-
Printing only occurs when the students' work is finished and ready to be
printed - approved by the teacher.
-
If documents are not completely printed when students leave to return to
class, the unprinted documents will be sent to the students' class once they
are all finished.

Students in grades 2-3 will be working on the Internet.
Students will:

Discuss Web Browsers: We use Internet Explorer.
Others include Netscape Navigator.

Open the Internet by clicking on the "Internet Explorer"
icon (a Big Blue E)

Click in the address bar
-
Type in the web address we will be using -
www.pbskids.com
-
Students will recognize the site from our work with
Clifford in learning how to click and drag with out mouse.
-
Students will be allowed to explore the site and the
variety of activities available.

At the end of class time, students will log off the
Internet (clicking on the Red "X").
