lesson one.
Description of
the Unit:
In World Wildlife,
the second of five units, the children are introduced to database skills as
they help with the opening of the World Wildlife Zoo. The pupils
complete a map of the zoo, create a sign with different types of animals,
arrange colorful patterns on snakes, organize zoo workers into team, analyze
new zoo creatures and sort zoo souvenirs. in the process, the students
classify objects according to attributes, arrange data in patterns, and
organize data by sorting, grouping, ordering, and using axes. Then
they research animals by using a multimedia encyclopedia and explore various
zoo Web sites by using the Internet.
Lesson One ~ The
students complete a map by moving blocks of different shapes and colors into
place. Then basic database skills are introduced as they bunch and
stack the blocks according to certain attributes. The pupils learn to
use a multimedia encyclopedia to research animals.
