K-2 FutureKids Unit 3 ~ World's Fair Project
Description of
the Unit:
This unit of the FutureKids Curriculum will help students to learn basic graphics and word-processing skills and use these skills to help create materials for a world's fair. A map of the fairgrounds, a glad for the event, and a sign welcoming visitors feature stamps, lines, shapes, colors, paint effects, and patterns. In addition, the students will write and illustrate a book about adventures at the fair while using advanced graphics skills, such as resizing, layering, flipping, and duplicating graphics, and word-processing skills such as changing text font, color, style, and size. The students will also scan photographs of themselves and use the images to create identification badges.
Lesson Three ~
Since the fair is about to open, the children paint a sign welcoming
visitors to the event. They add text, fill areas with colors and
patterns, erase part of an image and add graphics to complete the picture.
The students them import scanned photographs of themselves to make colorful
identification badges (if time allows).

Opening ~
Review Lesson Two with the students. Recall some of the tools used to
create the flag for the fair. Remember that the paint can tool can be
used to fill the flag with color, the eraser tool to erase unwanted parts of
the picture, and the rubber stamp tool to add stamps.
It will be announced to the students that since the fair is about to open, they must create a sign to welcome visitors to the event. To complete the picture, they will enter text, use different colors, draw a line, fill part of the image with color, erase a graphic and decorate with additional graphics.
