October 07 - 11, 2002
The students in grades 3 - 5 began using the Real Journeys in Technology curriculum this week. The theme this year is "Log On". This theme is one carried over in grades Kindergarten through Fifth. The first unit for grades 3-5 consists of imagining they are working for a computer design company.
Their company has been hired to design products for another company. The tasks covered in the first unit will consist of using their desktop publishing skills to create, edit, and finalize the development of various materials needed to produce a new "computer trivia" style game. The first lesson is to design the box the game will go into for marketing. The students were given a template that was in desperate need of correcting as the first phase in their designs for this unit.
Below is an example of what one of the student's projects looked like once they had completed the steps to correct and edit the template. They were also able to add color and other graphics to their work. This was not completed by each student, and will be completed in the next visit to the Technology Lab.
