Fishing With Grandpa By: Josh Valdez I wanted to go fishing one day last summer. So I asked my Grandpa if he would take me, and he said, “Yes”. We grabbed the poles, minnow bucket, and other fishing stuff and took off to the lake. Grandpa first had to stop by the bank and get some money to buy some bait. We got some worms that were red, pink, and black. They made good bait for our trotline and poles. We got in the boat, and put out the trotline. It was only one or two minutes when we thought we had our first fish. It was kind of green with scales. I thought it was a catfish when we began to pull it in. But, out of the blue, I realized it was a huge wire that the hook was hung up on. Later we did catch some catfish, crappie, and even a striper bass. After a while we took the boat into the main channel to fish. I got a bite right away and caught a yellow catfish. I had to grab it and clip the fins under its gills. That was a good spot to fish because my Grandpa caught fish so big that I had to help him get it in with the net. We were shocked because it was a channel catfish. It weighed over 45 pounds. The yellow catfish had only weighed 10 pounds. Then we moved fishing areas again, and caught some more crappie. I tried using some stink bait to fish with. I got a bite and pulled the fish to the top of the water when suddenly a big bass grabbed it. After the bass, we didn’t catch any more, so we left. Fishing with Grandpa was a lot of fun. Plus, we had some good fish to eat.
