Technologists of the Month

 

                       

The estimation station is set up each week for different grades. 
The students try to solve the math problem using their estimating skills
to determine the correct answer to the weekly problem.

Estimation station winners, week 34:

The estimation station was set up for 4th and 5th graders.  The actual number of cm cubes was 1,253.


The 1st place winner, with an estimate of 1,255, was Kayla from Mrs. Masopust’s homeroom.
 

2nd place, with  estimates of 1,250, just 3 away, were, also from Mrs. Masopust’s homeroom, DJ and fourth graders Henry from Mrs. Frame’s homeroom, and Stormy from Mrs. Baird’s homeroom. 
 

3rd place, with an estimate of 1,276, was Mallissia from Mrs. Masopust’s homeroom.

Estimation station winners, week 33:

The estimation station was set up for first graders.  The actual number of links from the ceiling to the floor is 92.

 
1st place both with an estimate only 1 away:

With an estimate of 91, Christian from Mrs. Duke’s class

And with an estimate of 93, KiShia also from Mrs. Duke’s class.
 

2nd   place with estimates of 90, only 2 away:

Eric, Mary, and Raynn from Mrs. Carter’s class

And Mekail and Zachary from Mrs. Duke’s class


3rd place with an estimate of 88, only 4 less than the actual number:

~ Week 28 ~

Estimation station winners, week 28:

The estimation station was set up for 4th – 5th grades.  The length of the string of beads was actually 370 inches; or 30 feet, 10 inches; or 10 yards, 10 inches.

 

The 1st place winner: with an estimate of 30 feet, 6 inches; just 4 inches away was Sierra from Mrs. Masopust’s homeroom.

 

2nd place: with an estimate of 364, just 6 inches over was Kayla also from Mrs. Masopust’s homeroom.

 

3rd place: with an estimate of 378 inches, just 8 inches over was Miranda from Mrs. Counts’ homeroom.

 

Honorable Mention goes to Hannah and Ashley for their very close estimates of 360 inches, which was just 10 inches under the actual length of the beads.

Estimation station winners, week 27:

 

Last week the estimation station was for first grade.  The actual number of cubes in the jar was 60.

 

1st place - with an estimate of 55, only 5 away, was Katelyn from Mrs. Carter’s class.

 

2nd place - with an estimate of 49, only 11 away, Alexie from Mrs. Plummer’s class.

 

3rd place – with an estimate of 76, which was 16 away, Christopher from Mrs. Plummer’s class.
